18984 OG Hurricanes
South Carolina, USA
Hello from Charleston, South Carolina! We are Team 18984 Hurricanes from Orange Grove Charter Middle School, and we’re thrilled to be here at the FTC Premier Event in Eindhoven. Our team is made up of seven members—four middle schoolers and three ninth graders—who bring a wide mix of skills, personalities, and passions to everything we build.
One thing that makes us unique is that every single one of us has been through at least one year of FLL, and for most of us, we did it together. That shared history means we’ve grown up as a robotics family. We’ve learned how to celebrate wins, fix failures, and laugh through the chaos as a team.
We also like to say we’re the perfect blend of nerds—anime nerds, math nerds, gaming nerds, engineering nerds. If there’s a type of nerd, we probably have it covered. That mix of personalities is exactly what makes our team creative, unpredictable, and a whole lot of fun.
Memorable Moments
Our season has been full of unforgettable moments, including:
-Zoey stripping a screw so badly it became a team legend
-Random bursts of KUNG FU FIGHTING during competition downtime
-All seven of us holding hands in a nervous circle waiting for awards to be announced
-Team drawing sessions that somehow turned into brainstorming sessions
-And countless moments of chaotic teamwork that somehow always lead to progress
Our Motto
HurriCANes — not the HurriCAN’Ts.
We say it, we mean it, and we build like it.
Fun Facts About Us
Most of us competed together on the same FLL team last year
Our three high schoolers all attend different schools, but robotics keeps us connected.
We design and build original robots every single year, pushing ourselves to be creative while still engineering efficient, reliable machines.
